Details
Hurricane Cove was the name of a restaurant bar attached to the Waikiki Hotel on Catalina Island. One of the few, if not perhaps only, Polynesian themed businesses on Catalina, it may or may not have been inspired by one of the many tropical themed films shot on the island, including the 1937 film The Hurricane directed by John Ford, with Dorothy Lamour, Jon Hall, Mary Astor. Whatever the case, Hurricane Cove featured some of the best live music and entertainment on Catalina and was in operation until the late 1970's when a fire destroyed both the hotel and the bar/restaurant. This shirt comes from art scanned from a matchbook by us, cleaned up then hand redrawn in a vector image program to provide the best possible resolution for this really cool piece of art. Featuring a man held in a woman's thrall, we refer to this one as our modern primitive design. This image is printed on a vintage red background.
